Among the cities in Tennessee, Union City which is part of Obion County and has a metropolitan area around it has much history and unique landscape to offer. A minor battle of the American Civil War was fought here in the year 1864. Today the same city is sited to several industries like Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.
There are several quirks to be found here such as being the hometown of famous congressmen as well as inventor of stone washed jeans in the eighties. Even if the town is small there are certain major attractions here for visitors and locals alike. Discovery Park of America is a well known attraction here across the whole state. It was founded in the year 2013 and by Robert Kirkland. There is much to discover here for kids and adults alike. They will find much about art, nature, history, science and technology that goes beyond the usual level of knowhow. This landmark place has been rightly compared to the Smithsonian. If you are coming here from Nashville you will find several unique things to explore such as a theatre simulation of New Madrid earthquakes that took place in the 1800s or an aquarium holding 20,000 gallons of water as well as a 60 foot replica of a human body.
Union City is also close to Reelfoot Lake which was formed during the earthquake stage, which affected the area between 1811 and 1812. It is a popular place for recreation, fishing and boating activities.
The city is also close to the campus of the University of Tennessee which is located at Martin.
